Longwood Estates at Ross Downs is a Colleyville favorite. Built in the mid to late 1990's, the 110 or so homes that make up the neighborhood were constructed by new home builders Sovereign Homes and Drees Homes. Typically around 3100-3900 square feet in size, the residences in Longwood at Ross Downs are a bit newer than those in what could be considered Longwood's "sister neighborhood" of Ross Downs.
While not the "true custom" homes, the homes in Longwood feature the upscale appointments one would expect to find at the price range; wide moldings and extensive trim, high ceilings, luxury master baths and gourmet kitchens are the norm. There is no Owners Association for Longwood home buyers as there is in Ross Downs, and neighbors can still enjoy the city of Colleyville's Kimzey Park with its quarter mile walking trail, fishing pond and playground within easy walking distance.
Children in Longwood attend Glenhope Elementary, Cross Timbers Middle School and Grapevine High, all a part of the well thought of Grapevine-Collevyille School District. Longwood at Ross Downs enjoys a convenient location on the east side of Highway 26 (Colleyville Boulevard) between John McCain and Pool Road, with easy access to Highway 114 and 121, DFW Airport, plus all the upscale shopping and dining Colleyville and the very near cities of Southlake and Grapevine have to offer. -Cindy

Longwood Estates at Ross Downs homes for sale are located in the northeastern portion of Colleyville just east of Colleyville Boulevard (also known as Highway 26), between John McCain Road and Pool Road / Brumlow Avenue. Right across Colleyville Blvd. is the City of Southlake, and just north of the Pool Road intersection is Grapevine. So as you can see, Longwood Estates sits right at the intersection of 3 cities.
Most Colleyville home buyers site the cities' convenient location and easy access to Highways 121, 114 and 360 as a major draw to the area. Commute times from Colleyville to just about anywhere in the Metroplex is kept to a minimum, especially now that the DFW Connector project that widened 121 and 114 is complete. Of course, it's just a hop to DFW Airport as well.
Schools Close By
There are very few who would argue the high quality of the Grapevine-Colleyville Schools of which Longwood at Ross Downs is a part. Neighborhood home values are partially driven by the perception of local schools, and the kids of Longwood attend three of the top performers.
Just north of Longwood at Ross Downs is Grapevine High School, home of the Mustangs. You'll see the campus on Highway 26 as you head southwest from Highway 114. The middle school, Cross Timbers, is adjacent to the high school at the corner of Ira E. Woods (also known as Highway 26 or Colleyville Blvd.) and Pool Road. Glenhope Elementary serves the neighborhood K-5th graders. These youngest "Glenhope Gators" head east just past the boundary of the Ross Downs neighborhood to get to school. lt's an easy bike ride for Longwood at Ross Downs kids.
Longwood at Ross Downs Lifestyle
I think you'll find the neighbors of Longwood at Ross Downs a friendly group of home owners. There is no mandatory Home Owners Association in the addition as there is in adjoining Ross Downs. Just the same, the residents bond together and communicate via email and facebook, among other methods, and word about neighborhood activities spreads pretty quickly to anyone wanting to "plug-in".
Colleyville's Kimzey Park is available to Longwood residents who can easily access the greenbelt and trails found there with a quick walk along the greenbelt lining Longwood Drive as it winds past Big Bear Creek. Amenities at the park include a covered pavilion, sand volleyball lot, half court basketball and perhaps the biggest draw - the duck pond. Fishing is allowed and you'll find a lovely concrete "patio" that extends into the water to do just that. Kids will love the ability to chase after the ducks as adults keep a watchful eye while strolling along the quarter mile trail the circles the area.
The Homes for Sale in Longwood Estates at Ross Downs
Originally built in the mid to late 1990's, the homes that make up the Longwood neighborhood were constructed by two area veterans. Drees Homes built in many neighborhoods in Colleyville as well as surrounding cities and all these years later is still near the top of volume builders with regards to quality and reputation. Sovereign Homes also continues to build in the Metroplex, though not as prolifically as Drees. Both builders included the higher level of finish-out and trim that one would expect to find in a higher end neighborhood such as Longwood.
Most homesellers have updated their homes to include on trend finishes, as well as added many of the custom upgrades today's luxury buyers are looking for. Swimming pools and backyard living space additions are not uncommon, and flooring updates often include hardwood. There are a few single story homes in Longwood at Ross Downs, as well as cul-de-sac and greenbelt lots that come up for sale from time to time.
